There's a reason they say "It's betta in Marietta....."
With an urban atmosphere and a strong sense of community, Marietta is known for its many established neighborhoods, family-friendly setting and southern charm.
Marietta, located in Cobb county, is one of the Atlanta's largest suburbs and has a very storied history. The city’s square is still bustling today with antique shops, boutiques and the latest restaurants. The square is home to many festivals, Farmer’s Markets and music events. Marietta has a total area of 23.2 square miles
Marietta was initially settled in 1824 and later selected as the hub for the new Western and Atlantic railroad. By 1838, roadbed and trestles had been built north of the city but political wrangling stopped construction. In 1842, the railroad management decided to move the hub from Marietta to an area that would later become Atlanta. In 1850, when the railroad began operation, Marietta shared in the resulting prosperity.
Marietta is located near the center of Cobb County andInterstate 75 runs parallel to it. Downtown Atlanta is just 20 short miles away to the southeast.
There are two school systems within Marietta; any public school located in Marietta proper are operated by the Marietta City Schools and the remainder of the schools are under the Cobb County School District. MCS has one high school, a middle school, and several elementary schools. Marietta proper is located in west Cobb, a trendy, newer developed area of the city. East Cobb is older, more established and more exclusive.
